The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Nigerian government of plans to arrest some of its notable leaders.

A statement signed by the party’s national legal adviser, Victor Kwon, said the PDP is aware that the federal government has perfected plans to arrest the senator representing Akwa Ibom North West (Ikot Ekpene) senatorial district, Godswill Akpabio, the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu and other leaders of the party on “imaginary charges”.

In a verdict announced late Monday night, jurors in the circuit court of St. Louis, US, awarded the family of Jacqueline Fox £7 million of actual damages and £44 million of punitive damages, according to the family’s lawyers and court records.

The verdict is the first by a U.S. jury to award damages over the claims, the lawyers said.

Comrade Abba Moro, a former minister of interior, was detained by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, February 22.

 The ex-minister along with Anaesthesia Nwaobia, a former permanent secretary, and a deputy-director were reportedly detained over N650million immigration recruitment scandal. The commission is probing how this sum collected from the applicants who indicated interest in recruitment exercise was spent.
