-PDP said the FG is using its agencies to destroy any opposition

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Nigerian government of plans to arrest some of its notable leaders.

A statement signed by the party’s national legal adviser, Victor Kwon, said the PDP is aware that the federal government has perfected plans to arrest the senator representing Akwa Ibom North West (Ikot Ekpene) senatorial district, Godswill Akpabio, the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu and other leaders of the party on “imaginary charges”.


Kwon said intelligence available to the party has shown that the FG using various agencies especially the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)) is aimed at destroying the opposition party, PDP.

The party’s legal adviser added that all indications also show that present administration is focused on humiliating its party rather than fighting corruption.

“Finally, we state that this war on the PDP and its leaders has indeed gone too far. It has now become a mockery of democratic practice,” Kwon said

Kwon said Secondus detention is part of a grand script by the All Progressive Congress party led administration to destroy the opposition.

Secondus was arrested by the EFCC on Tuesday, February 23 over allegations of money meant for the purchase of buses. Just last week, the former acting chairman handed over leadership of the party to a former governor of Borno state, Ali Modu-Sheriff.

The appointment of Modu-Sheriff as the PDP national chairman has seen caused disunity among party members.
