Dream is not all about that incessant mental rehearsal of seeing oneself arriving at financial, economical, even commercial nirvana. It is a seed of possibility painted in the soul of a human being which calls him to pursue a path to the realization of his purpose.

Austin Nnochiri’s book: A Hoop Dream Realized is written to serve as an eye opener to individuals who have vision for achieving great results. The book stated some rudiments that needed to be adhered to, and that dreams are valuable commodities that propels one forward, towards coming to the level of self satisfaction. And that it is of paramount to note that dreams are renewable, and goes farther than the stereotyped dream mantra.
However, the aforesaid book is divided into ten chapters, in order to prod you to read through all the chapters. The first three chapters spoke extensively on how to create mental equivalent of your desired future, and equally embolden you to exercise action.

According to the book, every accomplishment ever recorded in human history started with someone’s dream. And that it is about the conceptualization of an idea through the mind’s eye. The book stressed that lives, actions and behaviours tend to follow after the dreams you hold tenaciously. Whatever change one clamour for, it must first be visualized as a dream captured in one’s imagination. The book spurs you to flashback nostalgically in retrospect to see some of your earlier nursed dreams, you once held concerning yourself, those dreams of owning fleet of cars, mansions, building great family, great personality and leader. He added a puzzle, by asking why you have jettisoned your dreams.

In another sense, a mental equivalent of the dream, which was meant to transform it into reality, was not created. The book added that every breakthrough in human history was preceded by an imagination. And that every problem in existence today, is simply an opportunity whose discoverer has not shown up. The book further stressed on the need to act on an already conceived dreams rather than reasoning it out. “Whether it is getting in shape, starting a business, going back to school or developing a meaningful relationship, in the end, life is about action. Action create opportunities”

Continuing the book added that it is your desire or expectation that drives your actions, your action is best demonstrated through your work. More so, your dream must be a burning intense desire that has the capacity to keep you awake. However, Austin Nnochiri gave how expedient it is to become obsessed with one’s dream. And that one of the greatest forces in life is the force surrounding a person with tense, burning desire or an obsession to achieve a task. However, desire towards the accomplishment of dreams should be like a lust, here it involves a mental effort that causes you to stretch yourself toward the things you have so longed for.

In chapter four to six, the book lamented on the need for individuals to unrelentingly keep adding value to themselves in order to be savvy in their dreams. And that nobody pays good money to watch talents on display rather; people pay good money to watch excellent skills on display. The more developed, improved, refined, excellent and packaged your skill is, the higher people will pay to see you showcase it. Opportunities are meant to be seized in the life time of those opportunities.

Apparently, conditions might never be right, never wait for the right conditions before you make a move towards actualizing your dreams. And that, there are no hold ups on extra mile street, conquer yourself by going extra mile. He added that practice delayed gratification; you are not in competition with anybody, but yourself. Conquer yourself, conquer the world. More so, that every resources that comes to you as a person, is a fuel. And that you decide whether you are to use the resources to feed your appetite, feeling and emotions rather than use it to feed your purpose, desire and future.

In the last four chapters, a hoop dream realized exposes you on how to leverage on risks; thereby to always see risk as a toehold for achieving your dreams and full potentials. In addition, that fear holds you back from flexing your risk muscle. And that it is been said that worry is darkroom where negatives are developed. Even, that there is nothing frustrating as passing through life and you are not known for anything.

The book however added that nobody will pay for passions and dreams that are still latent, that people only pay and reward you when they see it in the form of products, services, skills, solutions etc. Furthermore, that people do not celebrate people, but what they do for a living or what they have become by reason of what they have been doing overtime.

In the same vein, the book enjoined that people should learn to maintain a balanced life. This however narrows down to the fact that order is the first rule to productivity; you have to learn to put things in order.

In conclusion, this book is recommended to students, career persons, business minded people, ministers and others. It grammar usage is very simple, no ambiguity. The author, Austin Nnochiri used events, places, personalities you can relate with, as well as lots of pictorial evidence to depict some of the messages.
