I became an American citizen
recently, and that night, we watched the Republican debate, and I thought,
'This was a terrible mistake. What have I done?'" she told the Hollywood Reporter while promoting the movie "Sicario" at the Toronto Film
Festival.
Last week on "Jimmy Kimmel
Live," Blunt expressed additional reservations.
"I'm not sure I'm entirely
thrilled about it," she said. "People ask me about the whole day. They
were like, 'Oh, it must have been so emotional.' I was like, 'It wasn't! It was
sad!' I like being British."
The reaction on Twitter was

The British singer had posted a message on Instagram which said:
"Thank-you to President Vladimir Putin for reaching out and speaking via
telephone with me today.
"I look to forward to meeting with you face-to-face to
discuss LGBT equality in Russia."
But the Russian president denied the conversation ever took place.
Mr Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "Putin did not have
a conversation with Elton John and, what's more, we have not received any
requests from him for a meeting."
It is thought the singer may have been the victim of a hoax phone
call after announcing at the weekend he wanted to hold talks over
Mr Putin's stance on gay rights.
Sir Elton made the offer of talks after speaking at a conference
in Ukraine, where he met President Petro Poroshenko to lobby him about lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender rights.
The singer criticised
Mr Putin's "ridiculous" stance on gay rights and accused him of saying
"stupid things" about gay people's attitude to children.
Despite denying the call took place, Mr Peskov suggested
Mr Putin could respond positively to Sir Elton's offer.
"The president has always been open to discuss human rights
issues," he said.
"The president, I'm sure, will be ready to meet with Elton
John, too, if there is such a request."
Russia sparked an international outcry in June 2013 after passing
a law banning what it called homosexual "propaganda" among children.
Before the Winter Olympics in Sochi last year, Mr Putin
controversially said gay people travelling to the Games could "feel
relaxed and comfortable", but they must "leave the children in
peace".
Sir Elton, who has two sons with husband David Furnish, has been
outspoken on the issue of gay rights before.
