A report by New Telegraph has recently chronicled how the efforts by Vice
President Yemi Osinbajo and former governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola
Tinubu, to foist their ministerial nominees on President Muhammadu Buhari was
rejected by the president.
According to the
report, Tinubu did not have his way in his quest to nominate Mr Yemi
Cardoso as a nominee from Lagos state while Osinbajo failed in his move to
convince the president to bring on board popular human rights lawyer, Femi
Falana (SAN) as a nominee from Ekiti state.
Buhari was said
to have ignored the suggestions of Osinbajo and Tinubu based on his believe
that Fashola and Fayemi worked commendably during his electioneering campaign.
Fayemi was the
chairman of the APC National Convention in Lagos where Buhari emerged as the
party’s presidential candidate and was the Director, Directorate of Policy and
Strategy of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. On his part, Fashola
was chairman of the presidential fundraising committee.
The president was
said to have also justified the choice of Mr Adebayo Shittu as Oyo State
ministerial nominee because Shittu has been with him since his days in the
Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
Shittu, a 2007
CPC governorship candidate in Oyo State, is reportedly not on good terms with
Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
