PDP Accuses Buhari Of Abuse Of Power

The Peoples Democratic Party has expressed concern in a statement issued on Saturday, September 19, by Olisa Metuh, the party’s national publicity due to  National Assembly’s current state of been characterized by turmoil

According to the party, the Buhari-led regime has exhibited trappings of despotism such as “ruling without a constitutional component of a cabinet, persistent abuse of power, undermining of democratic institutions, invasion of state government and personal houses, injecting confusion into the judiciary and hounding of individuals perceived to be against its interests”.

Furthermore,  in its statement, the opposition party expressed worry over the “relentless onslaught against democratic institutions, especially the growing tension trailing the quest to annex the National Assembly; for which the Presidency had since vowed not to recognize the current Senate leadership, in total disdain to the independence of the legislature and the principle of separation of powers”.-Naij

Reacting to the recent statement, in which the president condemned the coup in Burkina Faso, the party described it as mockery, noting that Buhari’s government continues to violate the provisions of the constitution of his own counrty.

Metuh stressed that the PDP was not interested in “the intra-party squabbles within the APC, regarding leadership positions in the Senate”.
“Our concerns here are the prevailing executive intolerance, the undermining of the institution of the National Assembly and the overall threat to the survival of our democracy,” he noted
