The
Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra state has begged the police to clampdown on
all unlawful secretariats of the party in the state.
This request according to Channels
TV was made over the weekend by the state’s chairman of the party, Prince Ken
Emeakayi in Akwa, while calling for the arrest of any parallel executive or
anyone that is impersonating the state chairman.
According to Emeakayi, himself and
his executive would not watch helplessly as some group parading as PDP
executives in the state continue to cause confusion.
He stressed that the national
leadership of the party had put to rest issues bordering on the authenticity of
the party leadership in the state.
The PDP state chairman added that
the acting national chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, in a letter to the
Anambra state commissioner of police, Hassan Karma, clearly opines who the
state chairman is.
Emeakayi pointed out that any other
secretariats apart from the one located at 1, Ezidiegwuy Road, Udoka Housing
Estate in Awka, are operating on illicit basis. He added that the illegal use
of the party’s name, logo and symbol in the state would not be tolerated by the
executives.
The state police command had
however, acknowledged receiving a letter from the national leadership of the
PDP, confirming Emeakayi as its legitimate chairman. And the police noted that
no arrest would be made on the matter till the court sanctioned such action.
Meanwhile, a former adviser to
former president Goodluck Jonathan on political matter was reportedly said to
have gone to the national secretariat to declare his quest to vie for the party
chairmanship post.
He pointed out that the three months
which the party’s constitution stipulates for acting capacity had expired hence
the need for an election to be conducted into the office.
