Police officer nabbed for defiling 3- year-old girl
At the weekend, EBONYI State police command, arrested a police officer (name withheld) attached to Ugbodo Police Division in Ebonyi Local Government Area for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl.
Addressing newsmen at the command headquarters, the state police spokesperson, Mr. George Okafor, said the suspect lived in the same compound as the parents of the girl at Ugbodo.
Vanguard reports that the command also arrested one Paul Ulegu for alleged murder of his brother who accused him of stealing his chicken.
The rape incident, according to sources, occurred while the victim’s parents were not at home.
The suspect was said to have lured the girl into his apartment where he allegedly carried out the act.
When he was confronted with the crime, the policeman offered to pay N50,000 as compensation to the victim but her family turned down the offer and instead dragged him to Family Law Centre.
It was at that point that the matter was reported to the command which prompted his arrest.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr. George Okafor, the family of the victim has been contacted for first hand information on the incident, while a medical test conducted on the victim has shown that she was raped.
On the alleged murder of a 27-year-old man by his brother, Okafor noted that the incident took place at Unuhu Village in Abakaliki.
He explained that trouble started when the suspect engaged the deceased in a fight and eventually slit his throat with a machete.
Mr Okafor said the suspects would soon appear in court
